What it means
These codes appear after a receiver restart. Errors 14, 15 and 22 indicate a DVR problem where recording fails but live TV still plays; errors 18 and 19 mean the receiver and satellite dish are not communicating.
Likely causes
- A DVR problem in the receiver (errors 14, 15 and 22)
- The receiver and satellite dish are not communicating with each other (errors 18 and 19)
Quick fix
- Press the red button on the receiver to restart it again.
- For 14, 15 or 22, tune back to live TV, which still works while recording does not.
- If the code returns after the restart, contact support with the code and the screen it appeared on.
Still showing? If pressing the red button does not clear the code, call Sports Direct General Support at 480-941-3703; casino properties can call Gaming Support at 877-659-9257.

What DIRECTV error 14 and the other restart codes mean
These five codes appear right after a receiver has been restarted, and they fall into two groups. DIRECTV error 14, along with 15 and 22, points to a problem on the DVR side of the receiver. Recording won't work, but live TV still does, so the screen can keep carrying the game. Errors 18 and 19 matter more to a venue. They mean the receiver and the satellite dish are not communicating, so that screen has no programming until the link comes back.
| Code | What it points to | Live TV on that screen |
|---|---|---|
| 14, 15, 22 | DVR problem | Still available; recording is not |
| 18, 19 | Receiver and dish not communicating | Interrupted until the connection returns |
What it looks like on a busy floor
Picture a Friday-night rush. A bartender restarts a frozen receiver behind the bar, and a code comes up instead of the game. If it is 14, 15 or 22, the quickest win is to tune back to live TV and leave the troubleshooting for later. New recordings are on hold; the live broadcast keeps playing.
If it is 18 or 19, that screen is effectively dark. The most useful question is whether one TV is affected or several:
- One screen shows 18 or 19: start with that receiver and its own cable run.
- Several screens show it at once: look at what they share, such as the dish, the cabling it feeds or the power inserter on a single-wire system. Our SWiM power inserter light guide shows what to check there.
Fix routine, fastest first
- Press the red button on the receiver. This restarts it again. Give it a few minutes to come back fully before judging the result.
- For 14, 15 or 22, go back to live TV. Change to the channel you need and keep serving. Write down the code and which receiver showed it so it can be looked at after the rush.
- For 18 or 19, check the simple things. Make sure the cable at the back of the receiver is snug and that the receiver and any power inserter have power. Leave the dish alone; adjusting it is a job for a technician.
- Compare with the other screens. One affected receiver versus many tells your support team where to start.
- Call support if the code is still there. Give the code, the screen and what happened just before the restart.
When the code keeps coming back
A restart code that returns after every reboot is telling you something. Repeated 14, 15 or 22 on the same receiver is worth having a technician inspect, and if the box is aging, replacement may be the sensible answer. Our page on how to upgrade business TV receivers without going dark covers planning that swap around your hours. If a different code shows up instead, look it up in our error code library.
Repeated 18 or 19 points at the path between receiver and dish: cabling, connectors, splitters or the dish itself after a storm, a roof project or a remodel. Keep a short log of the date, time, affected screens and anything unusual beforehand, such as a power outage. If outages are part of the pattern, our surge protection guide is worth a read.
Keeping game day off the risk list
- Restart before doors open, not during the rush. If a box needs a reboot, do it while there is time to deal with a code.
- Test recordings the day before if you rely on the DVR for scheduled content.
- Know your fallback. Decide in advance which screen can take a big game if its usual receiver shows 18 or 19.
- Post one support number at the bar. One call should reach someone who owns the fix.
